The Apple Watch has become part of our everyday lives—it tracks our steps, shows notifications, and even monitors our health. But what can you do if it seems like it doesn’t last as long as it used to? In this article, we’ll show you.
Apple Watch battery health check
You can easily check your Apple Watch battery health by following these steps:
Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch
Tap on Battery
Select Battery Health
Here you’ll see the maximum battery capacity, which shows how much charge the battery can hold compared to when it was new. If this value drops below 80%, it’s worth considering a battery replacement.
Viewing battery usage
Here you can see the time since the last charge and how the battery level has changed. This helps you understand which apps and features consume the most power.
In the Settings app, select the Battery menu.
Extending battery life
Apple provides several tips to help extend battery life:
Optimized Battery Charging: This feature learns your charging habits and only charges to 100% when necessary
Low Power Mode: Reduces performance to extend battery life
Reduce screen brightness: Lower brightness significantly reduces power consumption
Manage notifications: Limit unnecessary notifications to save energy
Battery health check: which models support it?
Battery health (maximum capacity view) is available only on Series 4 and newer models:
Apple Watch Series 4 and above (including Series 9)
Apple Watch SE (2020 and 2022 versions)
Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2
Important notes:
Battery Health was introduced with watchOS 7, so the device must support this or a newer version
Series 3 can run watchOS 7, but the Battery Health menu is not available there
Apple Watch fast charging support
Fast charging is available only on Series 7 and newer models, using a USB-C magnetic charger and at least an 18W power adapter.
iPhone and Apple Watch integration
The close integration between iPhone and Apple Watch allows you to easily track battery health and usage:
iOS 18: On iPhone 15 models, you can check battery health under Settings > Battery > Battery Health
Siri: You can quickly ask Siri about battery level and status
VoiceOver: Makes battery information accessible for visually impaired users
What to do if your Apple Watch won’t turn on or charge?
If a red lightning icon appears on the screen, it means the battery is so drained that the device cannot turn on. Connect it to the charger and wait at least 30 minutes before trying again
If the watch still doesn’t respond:
Check that the charging cable and adapter are properly connected
Make sure the charger is not damaged or dirty
Try a different cable or adapter
If it still doesn’t work, there is likely a hardware issue.
